The Treasury Department’s decision to declare the street gang MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, a transnational criminal organization could have a large impact on Long Island, where the gang has had a strong presence.
The FBI’s Long Island Gang Task Force says it has arrested and convicted over 200 members of the gang over the past decade, most recently arresting 11 MS-13 members last month on charges ranging from firearms offenses to murder.
